Eagle, Endurance and Erebus

Doug Ellison

Meeting : 14 June 2007

The Mars Exploration Rovers Spirit and Opportunity were scheduled to operate for 90 sols on the surface of the Red Planet; but they are still at work after more than 1,200 sols. Doug Ellison has followed their progress, and has processed numerous images from raw data obtained from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California. The story of Opportunity includes the ingenuity of mission planners, engineers and scientists, wonderful pictures of the planet’s surface (many of them in 3D), studies of areology, and the martian land speed record of 0.0237 mph. The presentation included images obtained only a few hours earlier.
